Why a Las Vegas Family Vacation?

To the world’s travelers, Las Vegas is a land of glitter and gold. Its famous Strip shines night and day with endless slot machines, miles of flashing neon, and equally flashy showgirls. Casinos tempt vacationers with gaming tables, top name entertainers and world-class food.

In the late 1980s, Las Vegas decided that it would attract not just adults but families as well. Following the lead of Circus Circus, the city soon touted itself as a place not just as an adult Disneyland but as a place where the whole family could enjoy a vacation. Roller coasters soon accompanied roulette wheels.

And the idea failed.

The world wanted, with good reason, a place where adults could be adults. Where you could stay up all night, eat and drink far more than you should, and try your hand with Lady Luck. The glittery city returned to what it does best – offering a fantasyland for adult travelers.

But much of that fantasyland is also attractive to children. And travelers to Las Vegas – whether they’ve come as conventioneers with the family, as a stopover on the way to a California vacation, or as a destination in itself – do bring their families.

So what’s the solution? The city has reached a happy medium. Today families represent a secondary market for Las Vegas. The number one market remains adults, but whether you’re coming with toddlers or teens, you will find activities and attractions of interest to the family.

Unlike resorts elsewhere, there are few supervised children’s centers in Las Vegas. There are some, as well as licensed baby-sitters you can often book through the hotel. But for the most part, you’ll want to experience Las Vegas with your children. Teens may want to go out on their own some, and there are many arcades that will entertain young travelers while you sneak away to the tables and the slot machines for a few hours, but in general you’ll want to experience all this town has to offer together.

And that, after all, is what a family vacation is all about.
